Dear EA FC 24: What Happened to Our Beautiful Game?

As someone who has been an avid FIFA fan since playing on PC with FIFA 07, I’ve watched the evolution of this beloved gaming franchise over the years. From the glory days of FIFA 14 and FIFA 17, which brought countless fun nights playing with my brothers, to the present moment of disillusionment with EA FC 24. Unfortunately, this latest release has left me, along with many others, deeply disappointed.

My journey with FIFA began on a keyboard back in primary school, evolving through University, and becoming a staple in my life whether I was alone or with friends. I enjoyed the game through its various iterations, and even though FIFA 20 didn’t captivate me, I found enjoyment again with FIFA 22 and considered FIFA 23 tolerable. The movement in FC 24 feels sluggish and disconnected. Passing is plagued by inconsistency, often leading to turnovers or unintended targets. These mechanical failures strip the game of its fluidity and intuitive gameplay.

Players often fail to position themselves effectively for crosses, while the defence seems almost omnipresent, making it nearly impossible to execute strategic plays. This rigidity extends to off-ball movement, where players inexplicably halt their runs, ignoring tactical opportunities.

Remember those sweet curled shots from the edge of the box? Well, they’re a distant memory. Shooting now is like playing darts blindfolded—you might get a goal, or you might send the ball into orbit.

Lately, I’ve found myself captivated by The First Descendant, a game that delivers the thrill that EA FC 24 lacks.
